Aston Villa 1-0 OOH Lincoln Aston Villa pulled off the win of the day, defeating OOH Lincoln by the only goal, and denied the LadyImps the chance to go top. Lincoln squandered a series of half-chances as Aston Villa defended deep. It was the home side who snatched the lead when Kelly Clarke followed up a free-kick midway through the first-half, after keeper Kay Hawke spilled the ball under a strong challenge.
Villa were solid in defence and easily blunted Lincoln's lacklustre-looking attack. Sophie Barker missed the chance to level with goal gaping wide and Amanda Barr 30 yard curler forced the Villa keeper into a spectacular diving save.
After the match, Lincoln's Leandra Little collapsed and was rushed to hospital. She had suffered concussion and a hairline fracture to a small bone near her neck, from an earlier collision with a team-mate.
"Obviously I'm very disappointed with the performance and result against Villa," said Lady Imps manager Rod Wilson. "It was a very poor performance from us and the players are disappointed with themselves.
Reading 1-2 Newcastle United Newcastle took all three points from the long trip to Reading. Newcastle took the lead through Melanie Reay on 6 minutes following a scramble in the six yard box. With both defences now being stretched, it was the Toon who capitalised on the counter-attack, when Rachel Furness hit a low drive from the edge of the penalty area.
Rotherham United 1-4 Preston North End Preston picked up their first points in style, with a 4-1 success at mid-table Rotherham. But it was the hosts who took a 54th minute lead through Kerry Longstone, before Louise Cafferkey quickly levelled and Hannah Bailey put them ahead on 63 minutes. Laura Walker and Gemma Watson then made sure with goals in the last two minutes.
Sheffield Wednesday 0-5 Sunderland Sunderland hit five at Sheffield Wednesday without reply, as they claimed a third straight win to move into third spot. Nicola Devine and Natalie Gutteridge claimed a goal each in the first-half, with the latter adding a second on 76 minutes, followed by efforts from Abby Holmes and Sophie Williams.
